Look at the top of trophy! Don't you see? It's just like a temple. I think it's Borobudur Temple, isn't it? Don't you feel it too? Well, Sudirman. It sounds like a name from Indonesia. Yap! Sudirman Cup is from Indonesia! The Cup is named after Dick Sudirman, a former Indonesian badminton player and the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia, or in Indonesian called, Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia (PBSI). The first Sudirman Cup tournament took place in Bung Karno Stadium (Istora Senayan), Central Jakarta, Indonesia on May 24-May 29, 1989.
Sudirman Cup takes place every two years. This event just like Thomas-Uber Cup. The difference is Thomas for Men's team, Uber for Women's team and Sudirman for Mixed team (Men and Women inside). China has been the winner of Sudirman Cup as much as 7 times. South Korea, 3 times. And, Indonesia has been the winner as much as 1 time. And we'll see, who will be the winner of Sudirman Cup this year. I hope it goes to Indonesia. Amen! Pray for Indonesia!:)
